Wave Joker Studios Brand Design Explorations
Wave Joker Studios is an animation and design studio whose core values are a combination of surrendering to the current of life ("wave") and embracing its humor and spontaneity ("joker").
In its branding and logo design, I made sure to strike a balance between those two driving forces. The joker motif became key for an elegant playing-card-inspired social media presence, and I had my lightbulb moment in transforming the initials of the brand "W.J." into an iconographic wave logo!
Studio Ellipsis Logo Concepts and Animated Title
This brand features a play on words: ellipsis (as in the three dots "...") and ellipses (as in the word for circular shapes). Isn't English a fun language?
I wanted this brand to exhibit a clean and modern feel. It uses a bold primary color scheme with high contrast in order to catch the viewer's eye, along with circular shapes to add a light playfulness.
In addition, I wanted to make sure it had a unified branding in both iconographic and typographic form.
I included parentheses to both logo versions as a container that helps to further imply the ellipsis / ellipses duality. The wordmark version of the logo features the three dots of an ellipsis taking the place of the dotted i's in "studio ellipsis".
The Wikipedia Paradox Title Card Design
The Wikipedia Paradox is an educational/entertainment video essay concept where I discuss the reliability of Wikipedia and its controversy in the classroom as well as its real-world ramifications in The Information Age.
I simplified and redesigned Wikipedia's globe logo into a flat vector style and turned it into an angel/devil duo to represent the controversy of whether Wikipedia's information is trustworthy or not.
The "Paradox" font in the title card is not actually a font preset, but an amalgamation of various serif and sans serif fonts I combined, edited, and reoriented to create the feeling of a chaotic paradox motif.
